Anton Emery

Web Developer · Portland, OR

Over eight years of professional web development has taught me that the best code isn't just correct. It's clear, maintainable, and considerate of the next person who has to work with it. That philosophy shapes everything I build.

I love working on "the back of the front end", building and maintaining a pixel-perfect, flexible, and heavily-tested library of design system components. I care deeply about the craft of engineering: clean architecture, maintainable CSS, and thoughtful API design.

Outside of code, I'm a folk and roots musician. I play Celtic, old time, bluegrass, and folk across several instruments, and I've self-released two solo guitar albums. Music and software scratch the same itch for me: both are about finding the elegant solution inside a set of constraints, and caring enough to get the details right.

When I am not playing music I enjoy being active. I train Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo, and get out on the mountain bike whenever the Pacific Northwest weather cooperates. I grew up sailing the Caribbean on a boat with my family, which is probably where I developed a taste for problem-solving in tight quarters and a comfort with figuring things out as you go.

Enthusiastic Mentor

I enjoy mentoring interns and junior engineers, helping them build confidence and good habits early. My teammates count on clear communication and thorough documentation. Whether that's onboarding guides, technical write-ups, or async updates for distributed teams.

Motivated Learner

Web development is a constantly evolving field. I have confidence in my ability to learn quickly, pick up new technologies, and proactively tackle new problems.

Attention to Detail

I take pride in precisely matching design specs and testing edge cases thoroughly. I enjoy cross collaborating with designers and product managers to make sure the details are right. I care about the experience of the next engineer who works with my code.

Positive Collaborator

I bring positivity and composure to every team interaction. I seek out patience and gumption in my teammates and try to model those qualities myself.
